"The Howling" – the stifled voice of the excluded

// 2021-09-19

46th Gdynia Film Festival starts tomorrow (September 20). We continue our cycle in which we're presenting you with the films of the Warsaw Film School qualified for the Short Film Competition of this prestigious event.

Today we would like to remind you of "The Howling" directed by Bartosz Brzeziński. The black and white film of our graduate is a story about the voice suppressed by its surroundings, that belongs to the community which is often condemned to social ostracism already at the stage of growing up.

Kuba grows up in a boring little village where nothing ever happens. He is raised by an alcoholic father who runs a sheep farm for a living. One day, an old acquaintance from the big city shows up in the village. The guest's visit comes at a time when the protagonist is entering a period of discovering his sexuality. Kuba quickly faces a difficult choice.

Film premiered at the 40. Koszaliński Festiwal Debiutów Filmowych MŁODZI I FILM. The filmmakers returned from there with the Journalists' Award.
