"The Cracks" in the competition at the Chéries-Chéris Festival

The film "Cracks" directed by Magdalena Gajewska qualified for the Short Film Competition of the French festival Chéries-Chéris. This year's edition of the event will be held November 20-30 in Paris.

 

Chéries-Chéris, festival du film lesbien, gay, bi, trans, queer et ++++ (LGBTQ++++) de Paris, dawniej Festival de films gays et lesbiens de Paris (FFGLP) is an annual international festival that focuses on cinema exploring the theme of sexual identity. Since its inception in 1994, it has been held in Paris in November. This year the event will celebrate its 27th anniversary.

 

"The Cracks" will be shown in the "Compétition Courts-Métrages ▶ Programme Lesbien" section. The qualification for the Paris festival is the first one after the great success of our film during the last 46th Gdynia Film Festival. The production won three out of seven awards in the Short Films Competition: a Special Mention to Jaśmina Polak and Justyna Wasilewska for their touching roles, a Strong Entry Award from "Zwierciadło" magazine and an Award from the Dr Irena Eris brand for the director.

It is worth mentioning that the film had its premiere during the prestigious International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary within the European Film Promotion programme FUTURE FRAMES - Generation NEXT of European Cinema.

 

"The Cracks" was also presented during the Lubuskie Lato Filmowe in Łagów, where Jasmina Polak, playing the role of Teresa, received an award for her performance. The title was also screened at the 37th Warsaw Film Festival in the section: Best Polish Short Films.

THE CRACKS
 
 

Teresa falls into postpartum depression. She and her husband decide to temporarily move to her family home in a small town. On the spot, the protagonist meets her old flame from years ago – Anna. Feelings between the two women are rekindled, which soon confronts Teresa with an extremely difficult choice. . .

Magdalena Gajewska – born in 1994, director and screenwriter. She graduated in film directing at the Warsaw Film School. She is a bibliophile and an amateur chess player, interested in psychology and sociology of gender. She is an activist and feminist looking at social changes, wherever there is a fight for human rights. In her movies she tries to capture what is not obvious in human beings. She sees those seemingly insignificant fragments of human life and creates intimate and universal stories from them.
